Knowing the Warning Signs

  • Talking about wanting to die or killing oneself
  • Looking for a way to kill oneself, such as searching online or obtaining a gun
  • Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live
  • Impulsive behaviors or being more irritated than usual
  • Not functioning like their usual selves (i.e. change in habits of how they dress, general appearance, eating or sleeping habits)
  • Excessive worry
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Substance misuse
  • Posting captions, hashtags, or emojis that are overtly sad or negative, especially if they go beyond sarcastic jokes
